Beginning to  Macramé

Beginning to Macramé is an interactive soft sculpture that takes inspiration from the knotted and interlaced structures of traditional macramé. Inspired by instructional 'how-to' diagrams, this modular soft sculpture allows the user to add or subtract knots and play with different configurations while learning about the names and word histories associated with macrame and knotting.

By exploring the playful aspects of domestic textiles and handy-crafts, Beginning to Macrame examines the associations we have to these familiar practices and expands upon their narrative in a contemporary context. Originally made as a part of my thesis project at Sheridan College, this installation has been exhibited at City of Craft, 2010 as well as Terminal 2 - Toronto Pearson Airport and the Living Arts Centre, Mississauga.
